Description
Extra Virgin Press’ first community based project asked Miami artists and writers to offer their views on our common home in the form of literary broadsheets. In a city where the “minority” has been the majority for over two decades, Miami has long provided a refuge to refugees. Our city and its people usually count multiple cities as home.
Extra Virgin Press’ first community project was supported by a Cannonball Wavemaker Grant, a Knight Arts Challenge Grant, and a Miami Dade County Cultural Affairs Community Grant.
In addition to providing portolios to each of the artists and writers, this project brought brought community readings to public libraries (South Dade & Miami Beach Regional), an exhibition for the portflio at Laundromat Art Space in Little Haiti, and art/poetry to three MDCPS High Schools in Hialeah, Miami Beach, and South Dade. The broadsheets contents were printed on large posters for classrooms, with artist/writer short biographies, art, poetry and thanks to our many supporters. In addition class sets of postcards reproduced each broadsheet with bios on the back for writing and art classes in the same MDCPS schools.
Edition of 20. 6 sheets including cover sheet, 11 in x 15 in.
